Carrie Lam says travel bubble with Singapore to proceed in November

Carrie Lam: “Singapore and Hong Kong have had similar success in containing the coronavirus”

CHINA (HONG KONG). Chief Executive Carrie Lam Yuet-ngor (right) revealed today that the much-anticipated travel bubble with Singapore is set to go ahead next month.

As previously signalled by the Hong Kong and Singapore governments, the travel bubble will allow passengers to move between the two locations without having to undergo the 14-day quarantine imposed on arrivals from elsewhere.

Travellers must first prove they tested negative for the virus, but no restrictions will be placed on their trips.

According to the South China Morning Post, Singapore posted three new COVID-19 cases on Monday and Hong Kong eight. Overall, Singapore has recorded 57,973 cases (65th-highest in the world) and Hong Kong 5,304 as of Monday (132nd), according to Worldometer.

In a further easing of the Special Administrative Region’s strict COVID-19-related travel restrictions, Hong Kong residents in Mainland China will be allowed to return to Hong Kong from November without being quarantined. A quota system will be applied as only two land borders – Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and Shenzhen Bay – will be operating.
