Capturing the essence of time: Davidoff reveals limited-edition Masterpiece Humidor Series

The Masterpiece Humidor Series I offers 50 Master-blended cigars with spicy, leather and wood notes

Swiss premium cigar company Oettinger Davidoff  has unveiled the limited-edition Masterpiece Humidor Series I, designed by renowned French marquetry artist Rose Saneuil. It will be available through select markets in September 2020, with a second series to be launched in November.

Each humidor offers 50 Davidoff Masterpiece Series I cigars, exclusively blended by a Davidoff Master Blender. The cigars offer spicy notes of leather and wood, well-aged Dominican filler tobaccos, accented with hints of toffee and retro-hale. The blend of the Ecuadorian wrapper and binder offers creamy black coffee notes tinged with prune in the second third. The last third offers a much creamier aroma, with notes of wood, spice and cacao.

The design of the Masterpiece Humidor Series I was inspired by different dimensions of time: time as the ultimate luxury, the limitation of time, and time standing still. Saneuil interpreted the first aspect through an image of a sunset; the second through evaporating smoke, and the third by using vintage tobacco leaves harvested in 1994.

Saneuil used luxury materials such as gold leaves, tobacco leaves, mother-of-pearl, parchment, walnut, sycamore, and wenge wood to decorate the Masterpiece humidor, which was crafted from grey-tinted pear wood.

The Masterpiece Humidor Series II will launch in November. It will feature a combination of darker tobacco colours complemented with shimmering golden hues.

The second Masterpiece Series, also designed by Rose Saneuil, will be launched in November

Oettinger Davidoff Chief Marketing Officer Edward Simon said the collaboration celebrates the brand’s heritage of craftsmanship and creativity. He said: “Collaborating with artisans and artists mastering unique skills is not only a cornerstone in our innovation strategy but always a possibility for us at Davidoff to learn, get inspired and expand our creative horizons.”

“Working with Rose, observing her creative approach and ability to translate into materials and techniques with a level of detail and dedication second to none, was a true privilege,” added Simon. “These two Masterpiece humidors along with the exclusive cigars surely are valuable collectors’ items.”
