Caorunn opens ‘bothy bar’ at World Duty Free Glasgow Airport

UK. Premium small-batch Scottish gin Caorunn has opened a ‘bothy bar’ at Dufry’s World Duty Free shop in Glasgow Airport in collaboration with Scottish fashion designer Siobhan MacKenzie.

The bothy showcases Caorunn’s Highland heritage and celebrates its new tartan, recognised this year by the Scottish Register of Tartans, which MacKenzie has used in the design of a contemporary kilt that will be displayed at the airport. The pop-up remains open until 24 September.

In celebration of the partnership, Caorunn Gin is giving away 500 mini-kilts designed by MacKenzie, dressed to fit the one-litre-bottle, as a GWP exclusively at Glasgow Airport.

The popularity of quality, superior gins is growing in travel-retail – last year Caorunn was the best-selling super premium gin across all major Scottish airports, including Glasgow, and the third best-selling super premium gin brand in British travel outlets in 2016, according to IWSR.

Brand-owner International Beverage’s Global Travel Retail Director James Bateman said: “Glasgow airport is one of Scotland’s gateways to the world and its staff are the ambassadors for the very best of Scottish produce. Caorunn is the airport’s best-selling super premium gin in 2016 and 2017 to date. We really hope that Glasgow’s passengers, Glaswegians and visitors alike, really enjoy the promotion and get to collect the mini-kilt.”

Travellers also have the opportunity to learn about the unique method in which Caorunn is handcrafted by Gin Master Simon Buley, and taste three different cocktails inspired by Caorunn’s locally foraged Celtic botanicals.

  • The Caorunn Apple Twist is a fruity cocktail with Caorunn, pressed apple juice and Fentiman’s tonic water.
  • The refreshing Ginito, comprises Caorunn, rich gomme syrup and lemon juice with a lime wedge and mint sprigs.
  • The Perfect Serve combines Caorunn with thin slices of red apple, premium tonic water and ice

Caorunn Gin will exhibit at the TFWA World Conference & Exhibition in Cannes 2-6 October 2017, on International Beverage’s stand at Marine Village S2.
