“Cabinet of curiosities” – Gucci brings contemporary eclecticism to new Amsterdam Airport Schiphol boutique

Gucci’s “cabinet of curiosities” at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol offers a range of the brand’s handbags, luggages, small leathergoods, shoes, silks and eyewear products

THE NETHERLANDS. “A space that entices and surprises.” That’s how Amsterdam Airport Schiphol describes the striking new Gucci store just opened in the Lounge 2 area of Terminal 2.

The Kering Group-owned Italian luxury and fashion house is offering a range of handbags, luggage, small leathergoods, shoes, silks and eyewear products in the 88sq m store.

“Contemporary luxury is suggested not only by the employment of beautiful and idiosyncratic materials, but also through a determinedly spare use of space,” the airport company commented.

“In keeping with the elegant and contemporary eclecticism that characterises Guccis collections, the store sees the combination of traditional and modern, industrial and romantic. The concept effortlessly complements the product offer from the House.”

The relaxing luxury atmosphere combines soft textures such as velvet poufs and vintage furniture with industrial design details.

The store also features further design contrasts with a blend of technical displays and rich fabrics, rustic wooden tables with velvet tops and marble flooring accented with satin boiserie.

Contrasting merchandising elements represent different design codes of the House, and these combine to create curiosity, inviting customers to feel like they are constantly discovering new aspects of the store. Each Gucci boutique is therefore a “cabinet of curiosities”, created to delight and inspire, Schiphol said.
