Brisbane Airport releases RFP for luggage concession in Domestic Terminal

AUSTRALIA. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a five-year luggage and travel bags concession as part of a big upgrade of its Domestic Terminal.

The RFP covers a centrally located 47sq m landside concession in the second stage of the retail redevelopment of the terminal. BAC said it was seeking “a leading luggage and travel bags retailer who is well recognised in the marketplace. This retailer will provide a high-quality offering including the latest products which will cater to a variety of travellers’ needs”.

The store will be complemented by a new retail mix of news and travel essentials, cafés and other food & beverage by 2020.

A big expansion and renovation of the Domestic Terminal has been approved, with new F&B, fashion and travel essentials stores planned

Total speciality retail sales in the Domestic Terminal are over A$20,000 per sq m per annum (ex GST), noted BAC.

BAC has been upgrading the Domestic Terminal in phases. A $15 million upgrade of the Southern (Virgin) end opened in June 2016, including a retail redevelopment. This saw the introduction of 19 new retail concessions including a significantly improved dining offer.

In January 2019, BAC will assume entire operational control across the terminal to create a single terminal. This will be the catalyst for Stage Two of the retail redevelopment and board approval has now been provided to commence the A$40 million project to upgrade the Domestic Terminal. This includes the retail offer in the Northern (Qantas) end and Central areas of the terminal. Works are scheduled to commence in early 2018. This project will deliver over 50 new and refurbished stores with an enhanced retail offer. New food & beverage, fashion and travel essentials stores will take the shopping offer in the terminal to over 70 outlets.

The submission deadline is 30 April. The unit is scheduled to begin trading by 15 November 2019.
