BrewDog to make global airport debut in Edinburgh

UK. Scottish craft brewing company BrewDog is preparing to open its first airport location at Edinburgh Airport this summer.

With Scotland’s busiest airport expanding into a new extension, BrewDog has committed to one of the retail and F&B units positioned there.

BrewDog is eyeing further airport opportunities for its bar concept

“For too long, airport bars have just been places to get the beers in before the gate closes, or a method of coping with the journey ahead. We hate this,” stated the company, which was founded in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie. “If you arrive at the airport to go somewhere amazing, we believe the airport bar should be your perfect launch-pad.”

The company wants to change the perception of airport bars

BrewDog will offer its “super-fresh craft beer” and food at its Edinburgh departures location. The company added: “We love the fact that many US regional airports have small-scale taps from local breweries for those who are passing through and love craft beer. We are committed to doing likewise at Edinburgh.”

Brewdog – which describes its model as “anti-business” – has expanded via four rounds of Equity for Punks fundraisings, drawing in over 70,000 individual shareholders to the brand and raising almost £54 million (US$75 million) in the process.

The company said the airport channel is on its radar “with more airport BrewDog bars pencilled in for the future”. BrewDog is also interested to hear from its large fan-base about which airports it should open at next via social media such as Twitter (@brewdog).
