Brazilian boost for Duty Free Americas with Manaus International Airport shop openings

BRAZIL. Duty Free Americas Brazil (DFA) has boosted its fast-growing presence in Brazil by opening a 2,400sq ft duty free store in the departures area at Manaus Eduardo Gomes International Airport.

This is DFA’s second door at the airport, located in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. In September the Falic family-owned travel retailer opened a 5,000sq ft duty paid store in the public hall. DFA is also scheduled to open a 4,750sq ft arrivals duty free shop in early 2017.

DFA has a ten-year contract with Infraero, the Brazilian government corporation that manages many of Brazil’s largest airports, to operate at the airport until 2026.

Booming in Brazil: Duty Free Americas has 18 travel retail stores open or under construction in the country

Manaus International Airport is the major international airport serving Northern Brazil and the region’s busiest in international passenger terms. In 2016, over 3 million passengers used the airport, of whom over 200,000 were international.

Duty Free Americas Chief Executive Officer Jerome Falic commented, “We are proud to announce the opening of our newest airport stores in Brazil, particularly since they represent the very first duty free stores ever at Manaus International Airport. Our duty paid store at the airport will also allow us to tap the important domestic traffic there.

“With 18 travel retail stores currently open or under construction in Brazil, DFA is committed to remaining the largest duty free operator in the Western Hemisphere. We look forward to a successful partnership with Infraero, and commend Michael Dinar [President of Duty Free Americas Brazil] and his team for yet another fantastic job getting these beautiful stores open.”
