Berlin’s airports posts double-digit rise in commercial revenue

GERMANY. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg (Berlin Airports) has revealed a +15.7% year-on-year leap in non-aviation revenues for 2016, with the figure hitting €59.7 million. The numbers were boosted by higher concession income from duty free, food & beverage and car parking, said the company.

In its annual report, Berlin Airports said that the range of retail and F&B had been expanded at Schönefeld Airport in particular over the past year.

It noted: “Three new gastronomy concepts now increase the variety of offers on the landside: in Terminal B the WunderBar, in the outdoor area the Almhütte with Austrian-Bavarian specialities and a large sun deck as well as a second airport branch of Witty’s. With the opening of the new arrivals terminal at Schönefeld Airport further retail and service facilities supplement the offers. It was also possible to optimise the gastronomy offers at Tegel Airport with the Asian concept NU as well as the snack concept Bretzel Fritz and to ensure more selection airside.”

Overall group turnover increased by +14% to €371.9 million and EBITDA hit €109 million, up by +28% compared to the previous year.

Passenger traffic climbed by +11.4% year-on-year to a record 32.9 million across Schönefeld and Tegel airports.

Berlin Airports aims to reveal a date for the eventual opening of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport this summer.
