GERMANY. Berlin’s airports handled 32.9 million passengers in 2016, a surge of +11.4% compared to a year earlier.
Tegel Airport traffic climbed by +1.2% to 21.2 million, while the growth figure at Schönefeld Airport was +36.7% year-on-year, with the total hitting 11.6 million.
Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH CEO Dr. Karsten Mühlenfeld said: “The passenger record is a great success for the airport company as well as for our customers and partners. We expect a further increase in passenger numbers in 2017.”
In December, the two airports combined handled 2.6 million passengers, a rise of +12.8% compared to December 2015.
