Beam Global releases Ardmore 25yo; launches Laphroaig Triple Wood into travel retail – 18/11/08

Ardmore 25yo: Beam Global’s latest limited edition release for travel retail

UK/INTERNATIONAL. Beam Global Spirits & Wine has launched a new 25yo version of Ardmore exclusively to travel retail, and has also introduced its Laphroaig Triple Wood to the channel. Both were showcased during last month’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes. The Ardmore 25yo limited edition will be exclusive to the travel retail channel with an RRP of €249.

Ardmore 25 Year Old has been matured in oak for 25 years to produce what is described as “a full and rich, single malt with subtle hints of peat smoke. Ardmore is the only single malt consistently peated since inception and the well-rounded flavour is a result of over 100 years of craftsmanship”, the company said.

Ardmore 25 Year Old builds on last year’s release of the first ever widely available Ardmore single malt, Ardmore Traditional Cask.

Beam Global said: “Ardmore Traditional Cask’s innovative peat-smoke flavour, though a rarity amongst Highland Malts, has proved a successful demarcation for the distillery and one that has won several accolades this year. These include Gold in the Beverage Tasting Institute’s International Review of Spirits; Gold in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold, “˜Best in Class’ at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

Distillery Manager at Ardmore Alistair Longwell said: “We are thrilled at the phenomenal response to Ardmore’s first release this year and are confident that this next release will rise above the rest too. Ardmore is Highland with a twist and I can vouch that malt drinkers will be just as delighted with this limited release Ardmore 25 Year Old.”

Produced in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the Ardmore distillery was first established in 1898 by William Teacher & Sons. Until its wide release as a single malt, Ardmore existed only as the fingerprint malt in the renowned Teacher’s Highland Cream Blended Scotch whisky.

Laphroaig Triple Wood: available initially online and through the travel retail channel

Laphroaig Triple Wood enters travel retail
Meanwhile, Laphroaig has launched Laphroaig Triple Wood to the global travel retail channel.

The company said: “Following the success of previous Laphroaig expressions via the global travel retail route, Laphroaig has selected global travel retail to be the primary retail channel for this new expression along with a limited number of direct sales via the Friends of Laphroaig online community.”

Some 200 bottles of Laphroaig Triple Wood will be offered to the Friends of Laphroaig through the Laphroaig website prior to exclusive release via the global retail channel with an RRP of €65.

Distillery Manager John Campbell said: “Laphroaig is famously the choice of whisky connoisseurs who appreciate its unique taste and thrive on the discovery of new expressions. Selling through the global travel retail channel is sure to inspire fans as well as newcomers to Laphroaig as they discover Triple Wood on their travels.”

The complex, peaty flavour of Laphroaig Triple Wood is the result of maturation in three different types of barrel: ex-Bourbon barrels, European oak casks (“˜butts’) and traditional Quarter Casks. Triple Wood is then bottled – without being chill-filtered – at 48% ABV.
