B+D reports positive start to 2017; Latin America shows signs of recovery

Specialist eyewear supplier Buch and Deichman (B+D) has recorded a strong start to 2017 for its Americas travel retail business as Latin America shows signs of recovery.

B+D CEO Roberto Crom commented: “After a slow couple of years we are seeing signs of recovery throughout Latin America. We have had a great start to the year in all the airport shops where we are operating. Robust sales increases at Jorge Chávez International, Santiago International, Buenos Aires Ezeiza, Sao Paulo Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro airports make us confident that 2017 will be a very positive year.”

B+D’s eyewear range includes the Blue Ban Readers and B+D Digital, which aim to eliminate harmful blue light emitted from digital devices

The top performing locations this year have been the duty paid store managed by ShopGallery and the duty free stores operated by Dufry and InterBaires at Buenos Aires Aeroparque, Crom revealed. “Both domestic and international passengers have reacted extremely well to our new ranges and we have seen strong double-digit growth in all stores. We have been working very closely with both operators and we have put in place ambitious promotional plans to ensure further growth throughout 2017.”

The brand has also witnessed strong sales in its border store business this year. “We have also seen better sales in Paraguay with all our clients and a solid performance of our new range of sunglasses on the Uruguay/Brazil border,” said Crom.

Crom added: “We feel that travellers realise that the B+D brand brings excellent quality at a good price and our investment to bring the latest technology has brought the just rewards. We will continue to look at ways of bringing additional product benefits for our customers.”

The B+D marketing team has been working to improve online sales in various domestic markets. Crom said: “Sales have been progressing well especially in Argentina and Mexico. Volumes are still quite small but this channel allows us to interact with our customers who buy online and also when they travel. We know that many of our loyal consumers look at our new ranges online before they go to shop in airports or border stores.”

Crom and his team will be attending the ASUTIL Conference in Rio de Janeiro next week.
