Swiss luxury label Bally will present its autumn/winter 2018 collection at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.
The collection, said the brand, is about “Bally’s homecoming”. It takes inspiration from Switzerland and from the brand’s origins as a maker of luxury sports- and performance-wear.
Bally, founded in 1851, has returned to its archives for inspiration for the ”narrative” as well as the aesthetic. Tapping into the trend for logos and the like, archival typography and graphics – dating from the 1920s through to the 1970s – have been reinterpreted and reintroduced.
The women’s collection is created with the urban traveller in mind, said the brand. The Bally man, it explained, “is on the cusp of new adventure – eager for discovery.”
For men, the main theme of ready-to-wear is “retro sportswear”. Shoe styles include derbys, moccasins and loafers, alongside boots, a speciality of the brand. Bags and accessories follow the sportswear theme. Crew is a key backpack; it contrasts leather with canvas and features various compartments.
The women’s ready-to-wear has a “70s charm”, said Bally. In footwear, as well as updated bestsellers including the Janelle flat, sneakers are an important focus. A number of archive styles have been reinterpreted and reintroduced.
The key women’s accessories launch for AW18 is Cecyle. Featuring a half-moon shape and a keyhole closure, the range comprises small leather goods as well as handbags in assorted sizes. Various hides and colours are available.
Another bag release to be highlighted at Cannes is a foldable travel tote, which is exclusive to travel retail. A lightweight yet durable style in navy blue with red and white detail, the large tote features an inner zip pocket that becomes a pouch to conveniently and compactly store the tote when not in use.
