INDONESIA. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, the main gateway for Bali tourism, has launched phase one of a widespread Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for commercial business partners across 23 selection packages. As reported, The Moodie Davitt Report is bringing exclusive inside coverage of the tender process from initial announcement through to the contracts being awarded.

Airport company PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) said that the RFQ, which covers the domestic and international terminals, closes on 12 June.

The programme comprises 11 packages for the retail category, ten for food & beverage and two for services. The concessions are open to local and international companies.

The Phase 2 RFQ will happen between 15 October and 6 November and will involve ten selection packages.

Persero said: “This is an extraordinary opportunity to open a business at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport which has been recognised worldwide as the Best Airport in Asia Pacific in the category of  15 – 25 million passengers a year; Best Customer Service in Asia Pacific in the category 15 – 25 million passengers a year; and Best Infrastructure and Facilitation in Asia Pacific in the category of 15 – 25 million passengers a year based on the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey from Airports Council International.”

Persero described Bali as a “world paradise” that is a perennial destination for international and domestic tourism. “The charming panorama of natural beauty, and a deeply spiritual, unique culture, combined with artistic traditions represent a magic that makes many people want to return to this island of Gods,” the company said.

The airport welcomed 24.1 million passengers in 2019, a +2% increase year-on-year. Persero said it believed that business would bounce back quickly once the COVID-19 crisis eases.

“This makes I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport offer promising business potential based on a statement from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who predicted that the COVID-19 pandemic will end at the end of 2019,” it commented. “So there will be a surge in tourist visits in 2021.”

In 2019, Bali was named number one tourist destination in Asia in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice awards (in 2017, the island was named ‘World’s Best Destination’ by the same source).
