Distell-owned Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky has secured awards for its duty free exclusive range at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
As reported, the trio of sherry cask-finished 18 Year Old whiskies were launched at Big Five Duty Free stores at Cape Town International Airport and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport in September 2019.
At the recent San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the range picked up the following medals:
- Bain’s Oloroso Cask Finish Single Grain Whisky – Double Gold
- Bain’s Fino Cask Finish Single Grain Whisky – Gold
- Bain’s PX Cask Finish Single Grain Whisky – Silver
The achievements at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition follow success for the brand at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards. Bain’s Founder & Distiller Andy Watts was named World Whisky Ambassador of the Year and the company’s home, The James Sedgwick Distillery, was awarded Sustainable Distillery of the Year.
Watts commented: “To receive such prestigious awards during these unprecedented times is a true honour and a great boost for everybody at Distell. It is a very proud moment for all involved and, importantly, the accolades are a further step in putting South African whiskies on the map.”
He added that the wins give Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky “a renewed sense of hope” ahead of the brand launching three more travel retail exclusives later this year.
