Autogrill celebrates Italian style with F&B openings at Rome Fiumicino Airport

ITALY. Autogrill has opened four food & beverage concepts at Rome Fiumicino Airport. They are located in the new Terminal 3 area inaugurated by Aeroporti di Roma in December.

A key highlight is one-off concept Assaggio, which has been developed in collaboration with Michelin star chef Cristina Bowerman.

The table service wine and fish bar aims to take travellers on a tour of Italy’s best wines, which have been selected by wine producer Zonin1821.

Bowerman personally designed three of the recipes on Assaggio’s food menu and was on hand at a launch event to entertain guests with a cooking demonstration (pictured immediately below).

Autogrill described the design of the Assaggio concept as “minimalist and contemporary”.

“I’m very happy to have worked with Autogrill again and created a prime choice fish & green menu to pair with the best from Italian wineries,” said Bowerman. “I think it’s important that a company like Autogrill wants to be constantly investing in the development of innovating food concepts that are ‘fast’ but quality and capable of elevating travellers’ food experience to higher levels of excellence.”

Autogrill also opened the airport’s second Bistrot and Rosso Intenso concepts and its first Kimbo Caffè Espresso da Napoli.

Bistrot aims to promote place-specific products and the revival of craft techniques, according to Autogrill. It was created in collaboration with the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo and features an interior layout inspired by urban covered markets.

Rosso Intenso is a wine & food bar that celebrates the link between wines and Italian culinary identities. The wine list features over 35 labels (white, red and dessert wines) from the estates of the Zonin family.

Kimbo Caffè Espresso da Napoli is a Neapolitan coffee shop that seeks to combine the practical features of international coffee house chains with the traditional style of the classic Italian counter. While two blends are used in the house espresso machine, one wall of the shop is dedicated to coffee roasting and blending, with seven silos displaying seven different Kimbo blends that consumers can buy.

A Kimbo Entertainment corner features a display of objects from the world of Neapolitan coffee, including coffee pots, cups, tins of coffee and other curiosities.
