Attracting football footfall: HMSHost opens Washington Redskins-themed restaurant

USA. Travel restaurateur HMSHost has opened the Washington Redskins Burgundy & Gold Club at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The Concourse B outlet celebrates the Washington Redskins‘ 85-year history in the National Football League. It was developed in collaboration with Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), Morgan Group Ventures, and MarketPlace Development.

The restaurant aims to offer travellers the opportunity to drink and dine in a club atmosphere.

HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Bryan Loden said: “The Burgundy & Gold Club is the perfect stop for travelling fans and HMSHost is thrilled to spotlight Washingtonians’ hometown team along with great food and drinks to travellers from around the world.

“HMSHost is honoured to build a winning team with the Washington Redskins, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Morgan Group Ventures, and MarketPlace Development to offer travellers this unique dining experience right inside the concourse.”

Memorabilia, including helmets, cleats, replica Lombardi trophies and autographed jerseys from the team’s top players, and photos from the five-time World Champions are on display throughout the restaurant.

A large video wall showcases the team’s history and illuminated transparent mesh images feature the team’s players who have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Large televisions throughout the restaurant ensure that guests are never far from football action.

The outlet offers a selection of local beers, wine, and cocktails, including Team Captain and The Ginger Snapback.

Many of the dishes on the menu are named to match game-day favourites such as the Old Bay Grilled Chicken Wings, the Kaplan & Zubin Fried Pickles and Corndog Puppies. Maryland Crab Cake Salad and The Hoggs Pit BBQ are also included as are breakfast dishes. Grab-and-go snacks are available and an adjacent store offers official team merchandise and souvenirs.

HMSHost said the chef-driven menu features local suppliers whenever possible, including Logan’s Chicken Sausage from Washington’s Logan Sausage Company, as well as local breweries and wineries.

Washington Redskins CMO Terry Bateman commented: “We are thrilled to be working alongside of MWAA with our partner HMSHost to bring the Washington Redskins Burgundy and Gold Club to one of the great airports of this region, Dulles Airport.

“There is no better way to celebrate our 85th season than by creating a place to experience Redskins football 365 days a year.”

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Jerome Davis added: “The Washington Redskins, one of the best-known NFL brands in the world, now has a themed restaurant at Dulles International that will connect passengers to this long-standing football dynasty.

“The collaboration between the Airports Authority, Marketplace and HMSHost brought the Burgundy and Gold Club to fruition, providing a sense of place, local flavour and a fun experience for passengers travelling through the airport.”
