GREECE. Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos has come up with an innovative way for departing passengers to pass their time before flights.
Within the framework of the UNESCO-backed ‘Athens World Book Capital 2018’ programme, the airport has placed 187 books at seating areas near Departure gates.
The books are available in Greek and English and are considered masterpieces of Greek literature. Passengers are encouraged to ‘travel’ through the works of great Greek poets and writers via the airport’s ‘Athens as a book’ programme which will run until April.
The airport has also collaborated with local authors Thodoris Georgakopoulos and Stella Kasdagli, and photographer Efstathia Kosti, and in an #AthensAirportraits exhibition.
The trio wandered the airport to capture the stories and experiences of 52 random travellers. The stories, one for each week of the year, are presented at the airport’s suburban train station in an exhibition which will run until the end of March.
