SPAIN. Belgian natural fast food brand EXKi, through concessionaire Areas, has opened in Spain for the first time. It has opened two locations with a combined surface area of more than 250sq m in Terminal 2 at Barcelona El Prat Airport.
EXKi’s offer is centred around fresh and natural products, organic and fairtrade whenever possible, and includes a selection of organic coffees and teas. It also has a range of savoury and sweet recipes, created under the direction of Belgian chef Frank Fol, who specialises in vegetarian food.
The new EXKi branches form part of an allocation of 15 new stores operated by Areas at Barcelona Airport. The concessionaire has already opened 13 of these stores including Javier de las Muelas’ Montesquiu and Dry Martini; the Santa Gloria; Deli&Cia; COMO; Boldú; and La Place; as well as five Burger Kings.
In the coming months Areas, which now operates a total of 29 establishments at Barcelona-El Prat, said it will open a Paul branch and an additional MásQMenos.
Areas is currently present at 20 Spanish airports with more than 240 stores. It operates in 13 countries and manages a total of 2,100 stores across airports, train stations and service areas.
It generated €1.832 billion (US$2.07 billion) in revenue in 2017/18 and welcomes 340 million customers every year to 2,100 restaurants and points of sale.
EXKi has more than 100 stores in Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany.
