Areas expands Madrid Atocha railway station portfolio to 11 F&B outlets

SPAIN. Food & beverage and travel retail operator Areas has revealed that it took over the management of nine F&B outlets at Madrid Atocha railway station during 2021. Many of the venues have had a ‘gastronomic revamp’, according to the company.

Areas was already managing two outlets at the start of last year – La Pausa and COMO Express – and now has a portfolio of 11 F&B outlets under seven different brands.

Mahou beer is a staple of the drinks menu in several of the outlets managed by Areas at Madrid Atocha railway station

The company said many of the concepts are based on venues which have been successful in downtown Madrid.

New venues under the Areas wing include Farine (a café/bakery concept with French and Italian influences); Dots Bakery (pastries and candy); two Mahoudrid outlets and an Origen by Mahou (both beer and tapas); two Rodilla venues (sandwiches); Deli&Cia (healthy eating options); Gastroteca (traditional Spanish cuisine); COMO (breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes); and Las Muns (takeaway concept, as reported here).

Areas – which has been operating F&B locations out of Madrid-Atocha station since 1996 – staged a series of events surrounding the venues during the Christmas period. Initiatives included the special Onda Cero radio broadcast from one of the Mahoudrid outlets and a concert Areas organised at the same premises, as well as ‘Meet Santa Claus’ events at a number of the venues.
