JAPAN. Kansai Airports has revealed that ANA Trading Duty Free will open the first arrivals duty free stores at Kansai International in Spring this year.
Three shops will open, two in Terminal 1 and another in T2. The stores will be small initially, at 44sq m and 29sq m in T1, and 22sq m in T2. The key categories will be liquor & tobacco.
In a statement Kansai Airports said: “These will be the first duty free shops located in the international arrival areas at KIX. After the opening, arriving passengers can buy goods exempt from duties and taxes.
“The introduction of arrival duty free shops will make passengers’ airport experiences more pleasant. Japanese travellers will no longer need to carry duty free items abroad, and foreign travellers will be provided [with] more shopping opportunities.”
As reported, legislation to permit arrivals duty free at Japan’s airports came into effect last year, with the first stores opening last September at Tokyo Narita through NAA Retailing.
ANA Trading Duty Free runs 13 stores at four Japanese airports, and already has a presence in departures at Kansai International. It also has outlets at Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Naha Airport, Okinawa.
Kansai Airports is a consortium led by Vinci Airports and Orix Corporation to manage Kansai International and Osaka International under a 44-year contract.
