Amorepacific Group inaugurates Green Tea Probiotics Research Centre in Jeju Island

A breakthrough in probiotics: The research centre was opened following the discovery of a new strain of probiotic green tea (Lactobacillus Plantarum APsulloc) in Jeju Island

SOUTH KOREA. Amorepacific Group has opened a Green Tea Probiotics Research Centre in Jeju Island to advance the study of microorganism research in the beauty industry.

The opening of the research facility follows the discovery of a new green tea probiotic strain (Lactobacillus Plantarum APsulloc). It was discovered by Amorepacific in Jeju Island’s organic green tea garden back in 2010.

With the help of Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Holzapfel, one of the world’s leading scholars in gut microbiota, the company confirmed that the new probiotic strain survives longer in the intestinal tract as compared to conventional strains. It also learned that it possesses several antibacterial and antibiotic resistant properties and decreases inflammation in the stomach.

According to Amorepacific, the new Green Tea Probiotics Research Centre in Jeju will expand the scope of research to include the study of microbiomes in the human body. It will also explore further uses for the probiotic strain in order to create new product innovations in food, supplements, and cosmetics.

In 2019, Amorepacific Group also opened the Anti-pollution Research Centre and the Sulwhasoo Herbal Medicinal Science Research Centre to further improve its research and development capabilities.
