SOUTH KOREA. Allen Hong is stepping down as Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of travel retailer CityPlus (City Duty Free), effective 30 June.

CityPlus is one of the country’s leading small & medium enterprise (SME) travel retailers. It entered the sector three years ago and operates duty free concessions at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1, Cheongju Airport and at the Port of Incheon.

It began a duty free concession at Seoul Gimpo Airport in 2016 but exited in April this year due to heavy losses. It was also awarded one of the SME concessions at Incheon International Airport’s newly opened T2, where it manages some 230sq m of shopping space, selling fashion, accessories, destination merchandise and food.

CityPlus  won a downtown duty free licence in Seoul late last year.

The highly experienced and much-respected Hong, who joined CityPlus in June 2017, has previously worked for Eugene Corporation, Hanwha Galleria Duty Free, Walkerhill Duty Free and Lotte Duty Free.

Hong is seeking alternative opportunities in travel retail. A man with rare knowledge of Korean duty free, he can be contacted at allencmhong@hotmail.com
