All writers, no tears – Walsh Whiskey announces Virtual Travel Retail Expo competition

Walsh Whiskey has partnered with The Moodie Davitt Report to test the literary knowledge of the travel retail sector for the chance to win an acclaimed whiskey.

During the week of the Moodie Davitt Virtual Travel Retail Expo, Walsh Whiskey is asking readers to send in the name of a famous Irish writer from each of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries (three writers in total).

The correct answers will be put into a draw. The first name drawn out will win a bottle of Writers’ Tears Double Oak – one of Whisky Advocates top ten new releases of 2019.

Writers’ Tears Double Oak is a blend of whiskeys aged in American and French Oak. Walsh Whiskey has described it as a “unique marriage” of aged single malt and single pot still Irish whiskies. On the nose it offers notes of vanilla, cinnamon, plum and poached pear, followed by pressed grapes and citrus zest, and a spicy finish with chocolate undertones.

Entries should be sent to doneill@walshwhiskey.com by 5pm (BST) on 18 October. The winner will be announced on 20 October.

As reported, Walsh Whiskey is a Silver Partner at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo and will be showcasing its products at virtual stand WS-S11. Speaking about the show, Walsh Whiskey Founder Bernard Walsh said: “Things have changed for now, but not changed utterly. We still need to engage with spirits buyers in a meaningful and qualitative way, but for now it needs to be virtual as well. Knowing the professionalism of the great team at Moodie Davitt, we can plan to do exactly that for our Writers’ Tears and The Irishman whiskey portfolios through The Moodie Davitt Virtual Travel Retail Expo.”

The competition is the latest collaboration between Walsh Whiskey and The Moodie Davitt Report. One previous competition tested the sporting knowledge of the travel retail community, with Aer Rianta International executive Maurice Burke most accurately predicting the outcome of Ireland’s Rugby World Cup quarter final against New Zealand in 2019 to win a personalised bottle of Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Japanese Cask Finish Irish Whiskey.
