INDIA. Flemingo Duty Free has launched its new-look store concept – Go Duty Free – at Chennai International Airport.
A 2,300sq ft arrivals and a 3,300sq ft departures store have officially opened under the new name at the airport, and Flemingo will now upgrade its stores across India in line with the new concept.
Go Duty Free is described as a “call to action name”, with Flemingo saying customer footfall had already increased in Chennai in the first few weeks of trading. “Early customer reaction is very positive and is reflected in the +70% sales increase on last year,” the company said.
Flemingo Duty Free has been operating in Chennai since 2007 and recently won the concession for another seven years.
The Chennai stores offer products across liquor, tobacco, confectionery, perfume, cosmetics and watches categories. The new shops feature video screens at strategic points which display product videos and promotions which Flemingo said encouraged walk-ins.
“We are committed to giving first-class customer service – and now we have the range and the space to delight customers further,” said Flemingo Duty Free India CEO Vivek Bhat.
“Support from the Airports Authority of India and our initiatives in travel retail will give the customer a reason to buy more duty free in India. We have and will continue to expand our portfolio and offer a new range to travellers, resulting in more customers.”
Flemingo will launch new stores at Kolkata, Amritsar and Goa next month while a new unit in Trichy has been operational since April 2016. By January 2017 stores featuring the new Go Duty Free concept will be operational at Jaipur, Lucknow, Calicut, Mangalore and Ahmedabad at both arrival and departures.
