Airports of Thailand posts +2.68% rise in Q1 concession revenues amid Chinese dip

Airports of Thailand AOT Logo thumbTHAILAND. Airports of Thailand posted a +2.68% rise year-on-year in concession revenues to THB3,302.71 million (US$94.4 million) in the first quarter ended 31 December 2016.

Total non-aeronautical revenue reached THB5,526.73 million (US$158 million) up +10.93% compared to the same period last year. This was mainly due to a sharp +31.02% increase in service revenues (linked to the introduction of the Advance Passenger Processing System) in December 2015.

The total number of passengers for the six airports under Airports of Thailand’s control reached 30.69 million, up +6.11% year-on-year. This comprised 16.52 million international passengers and 14.17 million domestic passengers.

Passenger traffic was affected by a government crackdown on cheap and illegal tours for Chinese visitors. These measures are expected to affect the volume of Chinese tourism for a short time, Airports of Thailand noted. However, the effect was compensated by increases in other foreign passengers, especially Russians and Europeans, it said.

The company said that the hotel, airline and retailing sectors need to focus on providing a variety of high-quality tour packages at reasonable prices to attract potential tourists to Thailand. “This will lead to sustainable growth in the Thai tourism industry,” it noted.

King Power International Company (Thailand) is Airports of Thailand’s principal commercial partner, led by its duty free business. King Power is hosting this year’s Trinity Forum in Bangkok on 25-27 October.
