USA. Video game lounge brand Gameway and Airport Dimensions have partnered to open a lounge space devoted to gaming at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The gaming lounge is located in the new Concourse E Expansion and welcomed its first visitors on 3 May.

This is the fourth location in the Gameway network, and the first in collaboration with Collinson company Airport Dimensions. Founded in 2017 and a 100% ACDBE firm, Gameway is growing across the US with lounge spaces at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (Terminals E and B), Los Angeles International Airport (Terminal 6), and now Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Two additional Gameway locations will open this Summer.

The lounge features entertainment experiences including individual gaming stations. These are fitted out with PlayStation or Xbox game consoles and Razer gaming PCs; high-end Razer gaming accessories; lounge chairs and Razer gaming chairs, alongside a selection of drinks and snacks offered by staff.

Guests can play pre-downloaded games including popular titles such as Fortnite, FIFA, NBA2K, Madden, Call of Duty, Minecraft, Rocket League, and many more.

The space offers a diversion at the airport for younger, tech-savvy travellers

This new facility can be accessed in a variety of ways. Any traveller flying through the airport can purchase access at the lounge based on the time they have available before their next flight.

Monthly passes should appeal to frequent flyers, flight crew, and other regular travellers, said the partners. Members of Priority Pass are also entitled to a complimentary hour of access plus a drink and a snack. Guests can pre-reserve the gaming experience of their choice before arriving at the airport by visiting www.gameway.gg.

Gameway CEO Emma Walbridge said: “We are thrilled to open our fourth Gameway location and offer travellers through Charlotte Douglas International Airport the opportunity to have fun while traveling for both business and pleasure. We firmly believe that the airport experience should be valued as an integral part of the travel journey, and simply put, our mission is to make airports entertaining.

“It made perfect sense for Gameway to partner in the development of this location with Airport Dimensions, as they are the global leaders in delivering experiences for air travellers. We know this is only the first in many more joint projects to innovate the airport experience and make time spent in airports both relaxing and fun. We also appreciate the spirit of partnership shown by both [prime concessionaire] Paradies Lagardère and the CLT Airport team, as it is clear that all parties involved in this project truly prioritise the traveller experience.”

Airport Dimensions Vice President Global Business Development Chris Gwilliam said: “Our partnership with Gameway is an exciting new collaboration in line with Airport Dimensions’ strategy to provide innovative airport experiences with industry leading experts.

“Video gaming is now one of the fastest growing markets in entertainment, particularly with the rapidly growing traveller demographics of Millennials and Gen Z. Gameway provides the best solution to engage this important traveller segment in the airport environment, making this partnership a perfect fit. We’re very excited about this first venture and look forward to more opportunities to collaborate with Gameway in the future.”
