Airmall USA unveils newly renovated Zona Cocina at BWI Marshall Airport

USA. Airmall USA has unveiled the newly renovated Zona Cocina at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall).

The new Latin-inspired restaurant is the result of an overhaul of the former Zona Mexicana; the original 2,240sq ft eatery has been completely redesigned and transformed with new décor, expanded menus and additional seating.

With a focus on the “˜cocina’ (kitchen), Zona Cocina serves freshly-prepared, authentic Mexican food and other regional specialties from scratch, honouring traditional cooking techniques.

Zona Cocina is described as “a great improvement and a significant investment in the former Zona Mexicana”, with new décor, expanded menus and additional seating

The updated menu features regional preparations that are said to emphasise the fresh, healthy aspects of Mexican cooking. Diners are taken on a journey to exotic regions such as Pueblo and Yucatan with zesty appetisers and signature salsas; salads and soups such as the house specialty, baja chicken enchilada soup; big burritos, tacos, and sizzling hot fajitas; as well as sandwiches and wraps. Specialty items range from cheese enchiladas to mahi and shrimp. Breakfast burritos, a la carte items and desserts round out the offerings.

“The best thing about the people at Zona Cocina is that they love food,” said Airmall Maryland Vice President Brett Kelly. “This is a great improvement and a significant investment in the former Zona Mexicana, which was itself a great restaurant for us.”

“Zona Cocina’s flavourful dishes are a hit with our passengers,” added BWI Marshall Airport Chief Executive Officer Paul J Wiedefeld. “The full-service restaurant is the perfect complement to the range of dining choices now in the airport. Travellers have a number of fresh, healthy selections thanks to operators like Zona Cocina.”

Besides food the restaurant’s other specialty is margaritas, as well as craft and Mexican beers and wines, served in a contemporary hacienda-style setting. Zona Cocina’s expansive list of tequilas includes 16 varieties ranging from classic blanco, reposado and anejo, which has been aged in oak barrels.

Located post-security in concourse B, Zona Cocina serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Opening hours are 5am to 10pm from Sunday to Friday, and 5am to 9.30pm on Saturday.
