CHINA (MACAU). Air Macau has signed a long-term concession agreement with DFASS, the world’s leading inflight duty free retailer.

Air Macau Vice President Wu Xiao Ming announced the deal today in Macau.

“Our new partner will provide Air Macau passengers with access to a great variety of well-known global brands,” Wu said. “They will also enhance the convenience of passengers’ shopping experience in the sky through the introduction of their next-generation inflight handheld devices.”

The new programme starts from 31 December.

DFASS Asia Pacific Executive Vice President Lee Hwee Ming said that the company is honoured to be entrusted by Air Macau with such a key partnership in this “highly dynamic” market.

DFASS Asia Pacific Executive Vice President Lee Hwee Ming: Delighted at a key partnership in this “highly dynamic” market

Air Macau is strategically well-situated as the airline hub for the fast-growing  Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Initiative*, Ms Lee noted. DFASS is confident of bringing Air Macau enhanced revenues and delivering exciting marketing programmes for the airline’s crew and passengers, she said.

“The partnership is the eighth concession contract for DFASS in Greater China, covering Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau,” Ms Lee commented.

Air Macau is a regional international airline based in Macau, inaugurated in 1995. Driven by Macau’s rapid economic and tourism growth over the past 20 years, the carrier has expanded its fleet to 17 A320 aircrafts. It plans to add 25 more by 2020. In 2017, the airline carried some 3 million passengers on several Asian routes, including Mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.

DFASS Group was founded by Chairman & CEO Bernard ‘Benny’ Klepach in 1987 and expanded its horizons to Asia in 2006. DFASS is now the world’s largest inflight duty free specialty retailer. It operates on five continents through a worldwide network of 120 offices/packing and fulfilment stations.

Note: In March this year, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced plans for the “development of a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area”. The initiative forms part of the country’s urbanisation drive, whereby clusters of first-tier cities boost growth in less-developed ones. The 56,500sq km  Bay Area encompasses 11 cities: Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing.
