Aerospa set for seventh opening at London Gatwick as sales soar by 145%

UK. Airport wellness and treatment specialist Aerospa is on track to open its newest beauty lounge at its biggest footfall location to date – London Gatwick Airport – in March.

The UK company, based in Newcastle in the north of England, has six existing airport spa locations, three of which were opened last year at Glasgow (March), Birmingham (June), and Manchester (September). The others are at London City (opened in 2016), Edinburgh (2014) and Newcastle (2012).

Aerospa Managing Director Anna Humphrey launched the company in March 2012 following a career in promotions and marketing connected to the airport business – and after completion of an MBA at Newcastle University.

Existing Aerospa airport locations vary in size from treatment bars as shown above at Manchester to larger full-service units at Newcastle Airport (below).

She told The Moodie Davitt Report: “We had a strong year in 2018 with three openings which doubled our estate. With a presence at Gatwick – the UK’s second busiest airport – from March, our future will hopefully be expansion into Europe. We see Heathrow and Dublin, with their expanding routes, to be integral to our strategy. Our airport sales last year increased by 145%.”

Aerospa can operate in relatively small spaces of about 6sq m going up to 40sq m, with contracts that vary from three to five years. Despite the small footprints, a variety of services are available from pre-flight massage, nail bars offering manicures and pedicures, to a blow-dry bar and gents barbering. Massages from experienced therapists include aromatherapy, reflexology and Indian head massage.
