Aelia, Dufry and Relay France capture key retail concessions at Nice Airport

FRANCE. Aelia has captured the eight-year duty free contract at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, with Dufry and Relay France awarded the gastronomy/regional goods and “˜chic souvenirs’ concessions respectively.

The awards follow a tender programme launched last year amid renovation of the Nice Airport terminals. The retail area dedicated to the three categories will grow from the existing 1,226sq m to 2,631sq m (+115%).

The new offers will be deployed from October 2015 in Terminal 1, which includes a walk-through duty free shop, satellite shops and a shop in Arrivals. The new-look Terminal 2 will open in May 2017.

“After a complete renewal of our catering offering at the end of last year, this is a big decision that marks a new stage in the establishment of a retail offering showcasing our region, and keeping the focus on customer satisfaction,” said Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur Chairman of the Board Dominique Thillaud.

Filip Soete, Director of the Commercial Business Unit, added: “We chose to work with the best travel retail partners, selecting those tenders combining performance, quality of concepts, customer experience, and a certain Sense of Place, i.e. the showcasing of the Côte d’Azur area, which we have made the heart of our project.”

The project is intended to expand and redevelop the retail areas and boarding lounges, as well as centralising security screening, enhance passenger service quality, simplicity and comfort, said the airport.

In addition, the target is to improve the retail offer and meet the airport’s original brief “to give passengers Europe’s most surprising airport commercial experience”.

Contracts for other speciality retail categories at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport – among them fashion, luxury, press, watches and jewellery – will be decided in the course of this year.
