“A vote of confidence” – Dufry extends duty free concession at major Cambodian airports

CAMBODIA. Dufry has extended its duty free concession covering Cambodia’s three international airports – Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville – for a further five-and-a-half years. The agreement was struck with Cambodia Airports, whose shareholders are VINCI Airports (70%) and Muhibbah Masteron Cambodia (30%), a Malaysia-Cambodia joint venture.

The new contract takes effect from October this year and includes departures and arrivals shops at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports, plus the departures shop at Sihanoukville Airport. The total sales area is 2,680sq m and each of the departures stores is a walk-through. Dufry has operated in Cambodia since 2003.

As part of the contract extension and aligned with Cambodia Airports’ retail development plan, Dufry will refurbish the duty free shops at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports. The store at Sihanoukville was redesigned in 2019.

To match the airport company’s drive to improve Sense of Place across the network, the new offering will be complemented by an enhanced assortment of local Cambodian products and souvenirs.

The partners plan to deepen digital engagement with travellers through ecommerce and by exploring synergies between online and offline sales

Dufry Chief Operating Officer Asia-Pacific Pedro Castro said: “We thank our partners of Cambodia Airports and are honoured to have been given the opportunity to further extend our close collaboration and to foster this long-standing relationship. Through the refurbishment of our main shops we will provide travellers with a new and attractive shopping experience, thus further increasing productivity of these important Cambodian hubs, which enjoy an increasing attention of international passengers.”

Cambodia Airports Chief Executive Officer Alain Brun said: “It is a vote of confidence. The partners share an optimistic outlook for global air travel and the many opportunities that the return of passengers will confer to airports and retailers with creative minds. To provide a seamless experience at our airports in Cambodia and to cope with the latest trends in travel retail, our teams will prioritise key objectives including accelerating the moves towards ecommerce, synergies between online-offline sales channels, and putting emphasis on health and wellness offerings.”
