A taste of Japan: SSP Finland partners with Ajisen Ramen for Helsinki Airport restaurant

FINLAND. Japanese food brand Ajisen Ramen, in partnership with SSP Finland, has begun serving passengers at Helsinki Airport. It is only the second opening for the restaurant chain in Europe and is one of 11 units to open as part of airport company Finavia’s new commercial extension, Aukio.

The restaurant has seating for 200 customers and is Ajisen Ramen’s second opening in Europe.

Ajisen Ramen, which is known for its rich Tonkotsu soup (pork broth), originates from Kumamoto, Japan. It has over 800 restaurants worldwide, including more than 700 in China.

The new airport restaurant has capacity for 200 customers and, as part of its offer, it will serve reindeer ramen, as a nod to the cuisine of Finland.

Ramen cuisine is the art of quick-cooking noodles, typically served in a broth with meat and vegetables.

SSP Finland Managing Director Pia Jormanainen said: “Ajisen Ramen is both familiar and popular among Asian passengers. The fact that this is the second restaurant in Europe and the first in the Nordic countries illustrates how Helsinki Airport and its services are continuously being developed with a customer-oriented approach.

Ajisen Ramen staff and representatives from Helsinki Airport operator Finavia officially open the new eatery.

“Customer feedback has suggested that there is demand for the type of food offered by Ajisen Ramen that is not currently being met. Since we are seeing a double digit growth rate in the number of passengers, from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea we expect this restaurant to be very well received.”
