“A stunning masterpiece” – Bowmore launches exclusive 21yo Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish

Beam Suntory has launched a Bowmore 21yo Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish single malt whisky which is exclusive to global travel retail.

According to Beam Suntory, the latest addition to the Bowmore portfolio celebrates the Islay distillery’s “mastery of perfect timing” in balancing rich and bold cask finishes with single malt whisky.

The liquid from the Islay distillery is bottled from a batch of only five Pedro Ximénez sherry butts which were selected by Distillery Manager and Master Distiller David Turner.

The Bowmore 21yo Pedro Ximénez has a 49.7% ABV. It is limited to just 2,500 bottles and available in global travel retail with a RRP of US$221.

Beam Suntory described the expression as a “desirable collectable whisky”, with Pedro Ximénez finishes only appearing in Bowmore’s signature 18yo and exclusive distillery releases.

“We wanted to give our drinkers the chance to explore new flavours that perfectly complement the smooth quality and character for which Bowmore is known for,” Turner said. He said the whisky adds “a fruity edge to Bowmore’s traditionally smoky finish”.

Beam Suntory International Global Travel Retail Global Marketing Manager Ed Stening commented: “We are thrilled to launch 21yo Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish exclusively into global travel retail.

“David Turner and the distillery team have created a stunning masterpiece here which is gorgeous on the lips. This single malt perfectly encapsulates the skill and elegance for which Bowmore is renowned and we cannot wait to hear the feedback from our collectors and drinkers.”

Bowmore 21yo Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish has a tawny orange brown colour. On the nose it offers notes of tobacco, heather, iodine and spices, old leather, rich treacle and bees wax.

A mix of sweet toffee, vanilla with rich treacle, oranges and peat on the palate is complimented by the influence of Pedro Ximénez imparting spice, cinnamon and nutmeg. The whisky’s finish is smoky, with notes of barbequed meat notes complimented by red berries and sea salt.
