‘A slice of luxury’: Manchester Airport to launch premium passenger lounge brand

UK. Manchester Airport is launching a new passenger lounge brand in Terminal Three.

The brand, ‘1903’, is named after the year of the Wright brothers’ first flight. The lounge will open in April at a cost of £1.6 million (US$2 million).

It can hold up to 71 people and aims to provide a more premium, luxury experience than airport owner Manchester Airports Group’s existing lounge brand, The Escape Lounge.

1903 will be priced from £30 (US$37.5) when booked in advance and is on sale from 1 February.

The adult-only lounge features its own chef, with passengers able to choose from seasonal dishes with locally sourced ingredients. Complimentary drinks including premium spirits will also be available.

Passengers using the 1903 lounge will also be able to make use of fast track security and unlimited free Wi-Fi, while it will offer views of the airfield.

“[The lounge is] in a prime location and will offer passengers a real slice of luxury before their flight,” said Manchester Airport CEO Ken O’Toole. “We continually listen to the needs of our passengers and 1903 offers something different from our existing airport lounges.”

Manchester Airports Group Executive Vice President of Business Development & Lounges Beth Brewster commented: “1903 at Manchester Airport will be our flagship lounge for the brand and will provide passengers travelling through Terminal Three with the opportunity to begin their travel in the most enjoyable and relaxing manner possible. We expect to roll the brand out in due course to our other airports.”

The airport has appointed Gariff Construction Ltd as the lead contractor.

NOTE: The Moodie Davitt Report is increasing its coverage of passenger lounges from ‘consumer-pays’ lounges only to all passenger lounges, reflecting our focus on airport consumer services and non-aeronautical activities. We invite submissions at Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com.

We are planning to produce regular lounge features and an e-newsletter in the near future.
