“A redesigned shopping experience”: Heinemann plans Hamburg Airport store upgrade

GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann will open three new or upgraded store concepts at Hamburg Airport in March and April, with the forthcoming “redesigned shopping experience” hailed by the airport.

Remodelled airside stores, on which work began in January, will include Destination Hamburg, which moves from Gate B53 to a site in the main Airport Plaza. It offers Hamburg-themed goods from St. Pauli and Hamburg SV souvenirs to Gin Sul.

Hamburg Airport said in a statement: “The relocation places the shop in an even more prominent location, easily accessible for passengers directly after the central security checkpoint in the Airport Plaza.”

Gebr Heinemann will also reveal a new premium sunglasses concept in an upgraded main store in the Plaza. It will also launch a new fashion, accessories, watches and jewellery (FAWJ) concept under the Destination Luxe name in upgraded space close to Gate A18.

Destination Hamburg is scheduled to open in mid-March, followed by Heinemann Duty Free Sunglasses and the fashion & accessories store at the start of April.

Fashion & accessories and sunglasses (below) will undergo a transformation in concept design as part of the store investment programme.

In other moves, several shops will be relocated in the Southern Passenger Pier between now and April. Hamburg Airport said that these would open “with modernised designs and optimise the usage of existing retail space”.

“At Hamburg Airport, we never sit still in our commitment to provide passengers with an optimal travel experience and a maximum of comfort. And this, of course, includes a colourful range of shopping options,” said Hamburg Airport Head of Center Management Lutz Deubel.

“We have been in partnership with Gebr Heinemann for many years, and the company has a great deal of experience and awareness of customer needs. We are thrilled about the fresh new design that the shops will soon be presenting – along with even more products and offers for customers to discover.”

Gebr Heinemann Hamburg Airport Managing Director Thomas Brock said: “My team and I are very excited about the new shops. The Destination Hamburg Store is so well established, you could almost call it a classic. With the trendy new design, it will be even more attractive to the young target market.

“And with the sunglasses and FAWJ shops, we are finally able to demonstrate our competence in these areas at Hamburg Airport again. We have an extensive product range for every passenger under the Heinemann Duty Free umbrella.”
