A fashion destination: Gebr Heinemann unveils three new stores at Hamburg Airport

GERMANY. Three new Gebr Heinemann-operated stores covering 435sq m have opened for business at Hamburg Airport. They cover the categories of fashion, watches and jewellery, sunglasses and destination merchandise, as flagged in an earlier story.

The largest of the three, at 205sq m, is described by the airport as ‘a mini-department store’. FAWJ (an abbreviation of fashion and watches & jewellery), located airside in Terminal 1, offers products from a strong line-up of brands including Longchamp, Coach, See by Chloé, Furla, Tumi, Pinko, Longines, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Rado, Tissot, Swatch and Swarovski.

The new FAWJ store features a variety of global brands from the fashion and watches and jewellery categories.

Gebr Heinemann told The Moodie Davitt Report that the FAWJ concept will be rolled out globally, with differences being governed by local requirements. Gebr Heinemann Purchasing Director Fashion & Accessories Jan Richter said: “We are proud to open these new developed Fashion & Accessories and Watches & Jewellery (FAWJ) multi-brand concepts at our homebase in Hamburg. The goal for us is to create an exciting and outstanding environment to surprise and please or customers.”

Gebr Heinemann Purchasing Director Watches & Jewellery Olaf Benjamin added: “We are happy to introduce new brands to our customers at Hamburg Airport and further strengthen our long-term partnerships with them.”

Meanwhile, Hamburg Airport’s first dedicated sunglasses store has opened in 100sq m, the eponymously-named Sunglasses. Also airside in Terminal 1, the multi-brand store features what Gebr. Heinemann describes as “a luxurious design framework to create a competent and exciting customer experience”.

The store is divided into two areas: ‘luxury’ and ‘premium’. The former includes the sunglasses brands Gucci, Dior, Celine, Linda Farrow, Burberry, Chloé, Prada, Tom Ford, Saint Laurent, Bulgari, Versace, Miu Miu, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Emporio Armani and Marc Jacobs.

The new 100sq m Sunglasses store features over 25 big name sunglasses brands.

The premium area of Sunglasses features Ray Ban, Oakley, Prada, Linea, Rossa, Le Specs, Maui Jim, Persol, Carrera, Polaroid and See Clear.

Finally, a dedicated 130sq m Destination Hamburg store has commenced trading, featuring ‘Hamburg-style’ products from the fashion, accessories, souvenirs, gifts, sweets and spirits categories. This includes merchandise from St. Pauli football club and Hamburg fashion brand, Derbe.

The store is located airside between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 in the central airport plaza, close to the main Heinemann Duty Free Shop, which has recently been refurbished.

Destination Hamburg has featured in the airport since 2003, but as part of the larger core Heinemann duty free stores.

Destination Hamburg gives travellers access to ‘Hamburg-style’ products across a number of categories.

Reflecting on the new openings, Hamburg Airport Head of Center Management at Hamburg Airport Lutz Deubel told The Moodie Davitt Report: “At Hamburg Airport, we never sit still in our commitment to provide passengers with an optimal travel experience and a maximum of comfort. And this, of course, includes a colourful range of shopping options.

“We are thrilled about the fresh new design that the Heinemann shops are presenting — along with even more products and offers for customers to discover. We are confident that the three new stores will be well received by customers.”

Of the airport’s relationship with Heinemann, Deubel commented: “We have been in a good partnership with Gebr Heinemann for many years, and the company has a great deal of experience and awareness of customer needs.

“We are very happy to have Heinemann, as a global player in the field of duty free and travel retail, as our biggest shop tenant and trusted retail partner at Hamburg Airport.”

Deubel also told The Moodie Davitt Report that upcoming plans for retail include movement and reorganisation of stores across Hamburg Airport’s Passenger Pier between now and autumn 2019. He said a number of stores will be re-opening with modernised designs, optimising the use of existing retail space.
