CHINA. Cartier is shining a light on its watchmaking history and skills at Watches & Wonders Sanya. The fine watch exhibition was launched in partnership with China Duty Free Group (CDFG) and will run at the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay, Hainan from 1 October to 31 December 2021.

The French fine watch and jewellery Maison is showcasing its latest masterpieces and precious watches in a temporary space at the Watch Zone (Block B) and its flagship Cartier boutique (Block A) in the CDF Mall.

The Cartier experience was officially unveiled for the key Golden Week Holiday period (1-7 October) and will run from October to November. It guides visitors through an immersive space to discover Cartier’s design culture through the lens of the maison’s three core values: shapes, crafts and complications.

The flagship Cartier boutique gets a kinetic makeover and is transformed with dynamic displays and animations that celebrate the Maison’s fine watchmaking heritage

Designed in a palette of Champagne gold and balanced with elegant neutral tones, the pop-up space welcomes fine watch clientele to browse the Maison’s most precious watches.

Cartier Global Travel Retail Director Virginie Martignac commented, “The Cartier precious watches journey truly captures the savoir-faire behind our masterpieces, inviting clients to immerse themselves into the creative spirit of Cartier watchmaking and to discover our exquisite collections just in time for the festive season. We’re thrilled to deliver an engaging shopping experience that inspires travellers in Hainan with the elegance, curiosity and creativity of the Maison Cartier.”

Designer of Shapes: A circle embraces a square at the Designer of Shapes Zone which showcases the graphic style of the Pasha de Cartier collection

Designer of Shapes, Crafts and Complications

The Cartier experience begins at the Designer of Shapes zone which showcases the symmetry of Cartier’s designs in the Pasha de Cartier collection. Simple yet elegant lines evoke the line’s graphic elements, including its signature square and circle motif.

The Designer of Crafts area sits at the heart of the space and highlights the convergence of Cartier’s watchmaking and jewellery design expertise. The zone shines the light on Cartier’s most exceptional fine jewellery watch creations, with a special focus on the Maison’s panther symbol. The watches are displayed under the watchful gaze of a quicksand panther display, further highlighting the Maison’s dual savoir-faire in fine jewellery and watchmaking.

The experience concludes at the Designer of Complications area which celebrates the innovative technologies, intricacies and movements in Cartier’s fine watches. The timepieces featured in this area boast the Maison’s most sophisticated and complex craftsmanship. This includes the Pasha de Cartier Skeleton Watch with Panther Décor which features a skeleton movement with diamond-set bridges.

At the Cartier boutique at the CDF Mall, shoppers are welcomed with a dazzling window space transformed with kinetic elements that pay homage to the Panthère and Pasha lines. A digital wall commands attention and features dynamic visuals that tell the story of Cartier’s watchmaking heritage. A kinetic animation sits at the centre of the boutique, which represents the union of the Pasha range’s circle and square elements.

Cartier’s presence at Watches & Wonders Sanya is dazzling showcase of precious timepieces. Some of the featured fine watchmaking creations include…

Révélation d’une Panthère Watch

650 tiny brilliant-cut diamonds map a meticulous trajectory across the surface of the dial, gradually revealing the panther’s head motif. This watch figures mimic an hourglass, which refers to the passage of time.

Panthère Songeuse Watch

Cartier’s panther is set around the dial, symbolising the collaboration between the design studio and workshop. This collaboration is constant throughout the entire development process and defies the notions of movement, beauty, ergonomics, volume, and architecture, realism and elegance, said Cartier.

Pasha de Cartier Watch

A popular watch since its creation in 1985, the Pasha de Cartier boasts an outstanding design and specific codes: square in a round dial, Arabic numerals, diamond-shaped hands, oversized crown and a ‘clou de Paris’ or a guilloche embossed pattern. The disruptive skeleton design is another a strong Cartier signature.

Pasha de Cartier Skeleton Watch with Panther Decor

This timepiece represents the very first Panthère complication in Cartier’s history, with a combination of two Cartier signatures: the panther and a skeleton movement. A graphic 3-dimension skeleton in the shape of the emblematic panther is enclosed in the new Pasha watch – a mechanism developed especially for this renewed interpretation of the panther.

Tank Louis Cartier Watch

A contemporary revival of the vintage Tank Must watch dial, the Tank Louis Cartier Watch features the same red and blue colours as new Tank Must dial animations with a more detailed, satin finish and sunray effect dial.

Cartier Libre Watch

The Cartier Libre collection has taken the aesthetic heritage of the Baignoire and reimages the entire dial to give it a new identity. An unexpected watch, the piece evokes a turtle thanks to its unique shape and geometrical décor that contrasts the smoothness of the buff top stones with the graininess of the diamond paving. This precious design is limited to 30 numbered pieces.

Pasha de Cartier Watch

Singular by its size and breakthrough design, the Pasha de Cartier Watch is a pioneer of its time. Pasha is a cult watch for a new generation said Cartier.

As reported, Watches & Wonders features new product launches; insightful lectures from watchmaking professionals; workshop experiences and a watch appreciation salon open to the public.

Fourteen of the world’s leading watchmaking houses are bringing a flavour of Swiss watchmaking excellence to the CDF Mall. Twelve Maisons are showcased at distinctive pop-up pavilions located on two tents opposite the main entrance, while Cartier and Hermès welcome guests at their respective boutiques in the CDF Mall. The bright, open-air pavilions are designed to boost customer engagement.
