South Korean beauty group Amorepacific has revealed its ‘2030 A MORE Beautiful Promise’ sustainability programme, which lays out five environmental and ethical goals.
The roadmap was developed under two guiding principles. The first is “moving forward together with customers and society” and the second is “coexisting responsibly with nature”.
The first two goals are focused on promoting sustainable consumption and to foster a more inclusive society. The last three goals embrace the company’s efforts to tackle climate change and conserve biodiversity.
The first goal is to incorporate environmental-friendliness and social inclusion in all its new products and to carry out brand activities that promote a sustainable lifestyle.
To do this, Amorepacific has pledged to reduce the carbon footprint of all new launches and leverage ‘Green Chemistry’ principles in product development. It has also vowed to refocus future brand campaigns to promote responsible consumption.
The second goal is to promote diversity and inclusion across its global network and seek “harmonious growth” with all stakeholders. Amorepacific is providing diversity and inclusion training for all employees and implementing these values in product and campaign development.
It is also investing KRW100 billion (US$89.8 million) to aid in the financial independence of socially-vulnerable communities and empower them to lead more sustainable lives.
The third goal is to achieve carbon neutrality and zero-waste-to-landfill across its global production network. To reach this, Amorepacific is shifting to 100% renewable energy across all global production facilities and converting all distribution vehicles in South Korea to eco-friendly alternatives.
The fourth goal is to transition to 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable plastic packaging materials. The company has vowed to use recycled or bio-based plastic packaging for 30% of its offer and provide more refill alternatives and services to consumers.
The fifth goal is to make meaningful contributions to biodiversity conservation. To achieve this, Amorepacific is investing KRW10 billion (US$8.9 million) to support biodiversity projects around the world and develop new technologies to combat climate change. It has also announced plans to partner with NGOs to support supply chain partners.
Since announcing its ‘Total Commitment Initiative’ in 1993, Amorepacific has consistently rolled out numerous sustainability initiatives under its ‘Create A MORE Beautiful World’ mantra.
“2030 A MORE Beautiful Promise is our latest commitment as responsible corporate citizens,” said Amorepacific Vice President of Sustainability Management Division Jeonghwa Oh. “With deep empathy toward our customers, society, and nature, Amorepacific will continue to collaborate with every member of our corporate ecosystem to create a positive impact on the world.”
