SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport turnover from retail (including duty free) and food & beverage climbed by +4.6% year-on-year in July to CHF54 million (US$56.5 million). Airside sales grew by +5.3% and landside by +3.5%.
The figures were buoyed by a +6.8% leap in passenger traffic (to 2.85 million) and maintain the sales recovery (notably airside) since a downturn last year caused by sharp rise in the value of the Swiss Franc.
On a less welcome note, commercial turnover per departing passenger dipped by -2.1% to CHF37.80 (US$39.58). This translated into a -1.4% decline in airside spend and -3.1% landside.
In the first seven months of the year, sales hit CHF310.6 million (US$325 million), up by +2% on the same period in 2015. Airside turnover was up by +2.6% and landside by +1.2%.
Turnover per departing passenger in the year to date hit CHF40.10 (US$42), down by -2% year-on-year, with airside sales slipping by -1.4% and landside by -2.7%.
Passenger traffic year-to-date reached 154 million, a rise of +4% on the January to July period last year.
