Zika virus creates increased demand for MosquitNo products

MosquitNo may have a whimsical slogan – ‘Don’t Bite Me Please’ – but the insect repellent company is tackling a serious health issue.

It has reported significant extra demand for its products in the wake of news coverage surrounding the Zika virus. Travellers’ increased awareness of the need to protect themselves against mosquito bites offers a significant opportunity for MosquitNo to increase sales in the travel retail market. For this reason, the company has made the decision to exhibit at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition and Conference in Singapore next month (stand: G01).

The company’s immediate business priority is to develop the Latin American market and to increase the number of MosquitNo stand-alone displays in airports and duty free shops.

The new MosquitNo display stands are already present in a number of airports across Europe and Asia

In terms of products, the main focus for MosquitNo this year is the introduction of an Insect Repellent Factor which works in the same way as an SPF to indicate the level of protection a particular product offers. The MosquitNo IRF ranges from 1 (lowest protection) to 4 (highest).

MosquitNo offers a range of products from towelettes to sprays, creams, stickers and bracelets. The latest range is called MosquitNo Nano and includes a textile spray and fabric softener. According to MosquitNo, the Nano range meets all World Health Organization safety requirements and is effective against the Aedes species of mosquito (dengue, Zika, yellow fever), malaria and offers protection against midges and ticks (Lyme disease).

The Nano range has been developed to offer long-lasting protection and some of the products, such as the fabric softener, can be reactivated without reapplying.

According to MosquitNo, insect repellent is repeatedly in the top 10 most commonly forgotten items when packing. In attempting to provide a solution, the company is rolling out a new travel retail campaign with the tagline ‘Bite Prevention for Travellers’. The campaign includes new stand-alone displays in white and lime green, which have been designed to attract the attention of travellers.

MosquitNo insect repellent products contain all-natural ingredients, the company said.. They are non-toxic, DEET-free, bio-compatible and suitable for all (including pregnant women, the elderly and babies).
