Unilever extends travel retail product portfolio with ice-cream brands

Unilever-owned Toni & Guy presented its limited-edition SophiaxToni&Guy haircare collection at last month’s TFWA Tax Free Asia Pacific show. The line, created in partnership with breakthrough shoe and accessories designer Sophia Webster, was previewed at London Fashion Week earlier this year.

The collection features a combination of hair care and hair styling products. In travel retail the focus is on four key products: Shampoo for Fine Hair, Conditioner for Fine Hair, 3D Volumiser and Volume Plumping Whip. The packaging carries an Aztec print design with flashes of multi-coloured neon, as seen throughout Webster’s SS15 “˜Jungle is Massive’ collection.

In other news, Unilever is exploring the travel retail opportunities for its ice cream portfolio. Ben & Jerry’s is now available downtown with Duty Free Philippines. And the group’s Magnum range is being trialled in Singapore Changi’s So Chocolate store in T2, in partnership with LS travel retail.

“Our ice-cream brands have a big heritage, and we are now testing the waters for them in travel retail,” Unilever International Global Travel Retail Business Manager Rosalyn Frayna told The Moodie Report. “We are experimenting. In Singapore it is the first time we have sold ice-cream in travel retail outside a F&B environment.”

A highlight of the Singapore store is the So Chocolate Connoisseur Club – a customisable promotional area reserved for exclusive global launches and product animations. Magnum was the debut brand featured, with an interactive gaming initiative.

“Travellers are given three tokens with any Magnum ice-cream purchase,” noted Frayna. “These can be used to play games and win a selection of prizes”¦It’s a fun, adaptable promotion.”
