INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, in which we examine how Airport Authority Hong Kong is restructuring its core category airside retail concessions in advance of a series of major tenders.

As The Moodie Davitt Report revealed exclusively earlier today, the airside general merchandise concession, currently held by DFS, is being scrapped, while a dedicated confectionery concession is being added. There are changes too to the scope of the liquor & tobacco and perfumes & cosmetics licences, also presently operated by DFS.

Besides considering the range and space changes to those concessions we also evaluate some of the likely candidates in what promises to be a heavyweight tender battle.

Elsewhere we cast the spotlight on China’s burgeoning post-Arrivals duty free market. In a landmark development for Chinese travel retail, state-owned China National Service Corporation opened a downtown duty free store in Shanghai in August. The store is open to returning Chinese shoppers, who can buy within a generous timeframe of 180 days. CNSC has approval to open further downtown duty free stores amid a government drive to retain Chinese travelling spend at home.

In our highly popular Sense of Place column, The Design Solution Managing Director Robbie Gill explores how airlines are constantly battling to present their travel experience as the best in the world, and highlights some examples of how carriers are embodying the spirit of their home countries.

We also assess the industry’s best new launches, campaigns, activations and openings. This issue features three new Johnnie Walker Houses in Asia and an immersive pop-up in Singapore celebrating a new expression of that classic Cognac, Martell Cordon Bleu.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
