Family-owned winery Taylors has released a six-litre handcrafted artisan cabinet and imperial bottle of The Pioneer Shiraz 2012.

Only five of the rare collector’s cabinets, created to celebrate The Pioneer Shiraz wine, will be available for sale through select duty free retailers and Taylors Cellar Door. The recommended retail price is A$8,000 (US$6,115).

The bespoke cabinets were handmade and designed in partnership with master craftsman Andrew Bartlett, an award-winning furniture designer based in Adelaide.

The Pioneer Artisan cabinet follows the release of Taylors The Visionary six-litre artisan cabinets in 2014. Ten cabinets were made available and nearly all have been sold, said Taylors.

Third generation Taylor family member and Managing Director Mitchell Taylor said: “Just like The Visionary cabinet before it, The Pioneer artisan cabinet was made with extreme attention to detail. The materials and craft behind this elegant piece truly capture the significance of this wine to our family. We’re very proud to be showcasing The Pioneer in this way.”

Customers who purchase the cabinet will receive an e-mail direct from Mitchell Taylor giving them an open forum to ask questions about their wine purchase.

“From purchase to arrival, each stage along the way is an effort to bring the buyer on the journey. We want to ensure that the investment they’ve made into this wine will reward them in the future, which is why we’ve given them a direct line of contact to the winemaking team,” Mitchell added.

The cabinets feature brass finishings and fixtures throughout, complete with an individual Spanish-made locking system to secure the cabinet for storage. The external sides of the cabinet are adorned with polished brass plates, featuring Taylor’s seahorse emblem.

Inside the cabinet, the six-litre bottle is secured with a wooden base and neck holder, along with a handmade kangaroo leather fastener.

When purchasing the cabinet, customers are given a custom designed key, bound in a brown kangaroo leather folio finished with a gold ornament engraved with Taylors seahorse symbol. Inside the journal is an official letter of authenticity signed by Mitchell Taylor and a collection of imagery detailing the Taylor family journey.

The Pioneer Shiraz 2012 is also available in 750ml, packaged in a gift box and metallic gold outer sleeve. The wine is a tribute to Taylors patriarch Bill Taylor, who, with his father, first founded the Taylor family winery in the Clare Valley back in 1969.

The Pioneer Shiraz 2012 is described as rounded at first with berry compote fruits finishing with firm, generous tannins. Coconut oak and dark chocolate characters are said to complement the deep, soft centre of ripe berry fruits.
