Plaza Premium Lounge makes its Brazilian airport debut

BRAZIL. Plaza Premium Lounge, the world´s largest independent airport lounge network, has made its debut in Brazil by opening at Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro.

The Hong Kong company struck a partnership with airport operator RIOgaleão to provide multiple premium airport services. The company will operate three Plaza Premium Lounges in Terminal 2’s South Pier and car park buildings. The lounges are open to all travellers regardless of airline or travel class, offering a total of 570 seats.

The international departures and domestic departures were soft-opened last month, with the arrivals location expected to open in October.

The Rio de Janeiro lounges are designed to reflect the city, showing “what being a Carioca is about” (Carioca means something or someone related to Rio de Janeiro).

Building on that concept the food & beverage offerings comprise a variety of hot and cold delicacies at the buffet counters and live cooking stations. Brazil’s signature cocktail, the caipirinha, features on the beverage menu.

The lounges offer international newspapers and magazines, wide-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, electrical outlets, hot showers (including facilities for the disabled), flight information display screens and USB sockets as well as VIP rooms.

Plaza Premium Lounge (international departures) welcomes travellers with a Brazilian-motif decoration and an artistic map of South America. The carpet reproduces the waves of the pedestrian street at Copacabana beach. The lounge offers a panoramic view of the runway, ideal for pictures and selfies with different aircraft in the background.

This lounge has two VIP rooms and an outdoor terrace.

Plaza Premium Lounge (domestic departures) has a strong Brazilian theme, notably the graffiti wall. The F&B offer includes natural guarana-flavoured water and Brazilian recipes such as cheese bread and tapioca. The lounge also features a private meeting room.

Plaza Premium Lounge (arrivals) is located next to T2’s premium car park building. It targets meeters and greeters and executives who require a convenient meeting place before or after their flights. Lounge check-in for arriving travellers includes a luggage-handling service.

The basic lounge-use package of Plaza Premium Lounge (international departures), (domestic departures) and (arrivals) starts at BRL240/US$75, BRL200/US$60, and BRL200/US$60 respectively for two hours.
