|Duty free’s stunning new look at Toronto Pearson International Airport
CANADA. The Nuance Group has opened its first new tax and duty free store at Pearson International Airport terminal three, in the newly-built hammerhead at the end of the Toronto airport’s Pier C.
This is the first store to be built under the new 10-year concession won by Nuance last November. The new store covers 270sq m and primarily offers liquor, tobacco and fine food products plus some technology and souvenir products.

This is the first of four new tax and duty free stores to be built in the redeveloped terminal.
The store layout also includes a tasting bar, complete with a wine bottle chandelier, where customers can sample various spirits, Canadian ice wine and specialty food products. The tasting bar is the first to be featured in any of the Toronto duty free stores.
Another “˜first’ is the addition of digital display point of purchase advertising. This new location will feature two 50″ plasma screens and two 19” LCD screens that play a continuous loop of vendor image advertisements and special product offers for customers.
Directly across from this store, Nuance is opening a 358sq m “˜sister’ shop where passengers can find leading cosmetics and fragrances for both men and women as well as luxury fashion clothing and accessories in four shop-in-shop boutiques – Hugo Boss, Burberry, Hermès and Givenchy
The Nuance Group North America CEO Richard Rendek said: “This long-term contract in Toronto gives Nuance the opportunity to continuously evolve and enables us to bring modern ideas to duty free retailing in North America: We have excellent space to evolve our concepts over time and the ability to offer a wide variety of product ranges. We are sure that all this will result in a truly exciting shopping experience for our customers.”

Pearson International Airport was the subject of an extensive profile in The Moodie Report print edition earlier this year. Click here for the article about the new airport development and here for an interview with Richard Rendek.
T3 is the big duty free focus for Nuance at Pearson. The expansion of the hammerhead area has resulted in the creation of two duty free stores, side by side (as a result nicknamed ‘the kidneys’). They present an exploration of Toronto life, in keeping with the strongly destination-oriented flavour of the airpor. Nuance management described the Pearson offering as “second to none within our group airport portfolio” to The Moodie Report earlier this year.
