Munich Airport opens new care and playing area for children

Use of the Kids Playing Area is free for the first hour

GERMANY. Munich Airport has opened a new Kids Playing Area, aimed at giving parents the chance to explore the hub while leaving their children in good hands.

Situated on Level 4 between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, the area features a large toy plane, a drawing and handicraft corner and a children’s cinema. There is also an array of toys, books and games, as well as a Nintendo Wii. Another seating area offers space for playing and reading, while there is also a make-up room for girls.

Use of the area, which is open on weekdays from 2pm to 8pm and on weekends and public holidays from 11am, is free for the first hour and priced at €3 per hour after that. During their stay, children are cared for professionally by qualified educationalists.

Munich Airport Head of Centre Management Elke Haeffner said: “With its wide range of services, Munich Airport is a frontrunner among European airports – and that’s why we also want to set standards when it comes to childcare.

“Our goal is to remain Germany’s most family- and child-friendly airport and pay special attention to the needs of our youngsters.”

“We want to offer kids a genuine paradise of entertainment, yet also give parents the chance to take a stroll through the airport in the knowledge that their children are in good hands.”

The new facility also includes a separate event room where the children can celebrate birthday parties with up to nine friend workshops are offered on Saturdays on different subjects, such as how to make your own jewellery or tours of discovery on the airport campus. Parents are also able to wait for their children in a separate lounge, where they have access to free wireless internet.
