The Moodie Davitt Report Print Edition for March/April 2015

Welcome to the digital, iPad-compatible version of The Moodie Report Print Edition for March/April 2015, available in full – editorial and advertising. This edition coincides with the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas, which begins in Orlando on Sunday.

In an extensive section on Americas duty free, we home in on the border store business between Argentina-Brazil and Uruguay-Brazil, as reduced shopping allowances enter force and the legalisation of shops on the Brazilian side of the border looms. We also talk to Duty Free Americas about its airport debut in Brazil, and the rich potential for its new operations at Curitiba International.

In Chile, Santiago Airport management discusses continued commercial investment even as the airport ownership changes hands, and World Duty Free Group (WDFG) speaks about its trading performance at the location. Plus WDFG assesses its recovery in Los Cabos, Mexico, following a devastating hurricane last year.

From the Americas we move to Asia, where Peter Dowling meets the leading airport companies and duty free retailers in Japan – from Tokyo to Osaka – and Ever Rich Duty Free and Tasa Meng in Taiwan, as part of a regional tour.

Our cover story comes from Istanbul, where in January airport consortium iGA awarded Unifree Duty Free the world’s biggest duty free contract at New Istanbul Airport. The consortium’s CEO Mertol Genc tells us: “Our target is not only to be the biggest international hub in the world but also one of the most preferred by passengers.” He talks about iGA’s ambitions for commercial activities, and about the vision for Turkey’s new hub.

There’s much more in this edition besides. We travel to Germany to see World Duty Free Group’s new-look retail arena at Düsseldorf Airport first-hand – complete with its localised Düsseldorf Duty Free branding. And we pay a visit to Budapest, where the airport company is not only talking Trinity values, but putting them into practice too.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Report with our compliments.
