Montblanc’s Augmented Paper takes fine writing into the digital age

Montblanc International has introduced a writing instrument that aims to integrate traditional writing into the digital workflow.

The Montblanc Augmented Paper has been designed to transfer written notes and sketches from paper to a mobile device where the content can be edited, shared with others and translated into digital text.

Building bridges: Montblanc’s Augmented Paper combines handwriting and the digital world

“Nothing compares to the sensation of writing on paper but in a digital world being able to share work and thoughts digitally has become essential,” said Montblanc International CEO Jérôme Lambert.

“Augmented Paper bridges these two worlds with a simple and highly functional product that gives its owners the freedom to unleash their creativity by using a writing instrument and paper, rather than forcing themselves to express thoughts and ideas with mouse and keyboard.”

Designed as a leather envelope organiser, Augmented Paper contains an electronic digitiser, a StarWalker writing instrument, notebook with lined paper, a USB cable to charge the device, three ballpoint refills and tweezers to exchange the refills.

The StarWalker pen features technology which ensures handwriting recognition in 12 languages including English, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian and Chinese.

Augmented Paper: An organiser with a digital difference

Montblanc said the Augmented Paper allows for the easy organisation of each document. Notes can be tagged and searched through the Montblanc Hub app. Files can be transferred and notes edited when the Augmented Paper is connected; the app can also be used to create digital notes when it is not connected.

Battery life offers up to eight hours of continuous use and a week of regular work use, with the ability to store up to 100 pages in internal storage.

Augmented Paper has been designed to be compact and makes work easier in constrained spaces, according to Montblanc.

Montblanc Augmented Paper Black is available from October 2016 in Europe, USA, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea, and from November 2016 in China, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico and the UAE.
