Making waves: Johnnie Walker House set for cruiseline debut

Diageo is launching its Johnnie Walker House concept at sea for the first time following a partnership with Dream Cruises.

The latest outlet in the company’s network of luxury Scotch whisky embassies will be located onboard Asian cruise liner Genting Dream from November.

To mark the partnership, Johnnie Walker House Global Director Lawrence Law and Dream Cruises President Thatcher Brown unveiled eight bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label engraved with the Dream Cruises logo at an event in Beijing.

The collection, which was designed and produced to commemorate the opening of Johnnie Walker House on the cruise liner, will be released and made available for passengers to purchase.

The Johnnie Walker House on Genting Dream will also sell rare John Walker & Sons variants and single malts and offers a mentoring experience for visitors. Bottles can be purchased duty free and can also be personally engraved. The brand will also offer cocktails and whisky and food pairing menus onboard the cruise ship.

A tasting bar featuring whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Super Deluxe portfolio will be one of the main elements of the outlet, along with a ‘whisky constellation wall’ dedicated to the brand’s heritage. It offers an index of Scotch whisky distilleries used to create the Johnnie Walker blends. A ‘blending table’ is said to offer the opportunity for “immersive and intimate” whisky conversations, and is surrounded by a malt wall display.

“With the launch of Johnnie Walker House on Genting Dream, we are creating a flagship home for Scotch whisky at sea,” said Law. “As the 21st property globally, this is an exciting moment for Johnnie Walker House in Asia and we look forward to introducing our heritage and brand to a new audience, on board this stunning new ship.”

Brown commented: “Whisky appreciation in Asia is significant and growing, and guests on Genting Dream will be able to learn more about the art of producing the very finest Scotch whiskies. I’m sure they will also greatly enjoy appreciating some of the world’s most prestigious Scotch whiskies in the company of fellow connoisseurs.”
