Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport unveils Terminal 1 commercial offer

FRANCE. Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport is putting a 10,000sq m retail, dining and relaxation area at the heart of its new Terminal 1.

Aéroports de Lyon has released details about the commercial improvements being made as part of the introduction of the €210 million terminal. Construction work began in late 2014 and it is scheduled to open later this year.

The terminal will feature 22 shops and a more than 1,400sq m Aelia Duty Free store operated by Lagardère Travel Retail and the airport. The Aelia store will include interactive areas such as a tasting bar, a cigar box and a beauty station. It will also feature full digital integration, according to Aéroports de Lyon.

The commercial offer seeks to blend international brands with boutiques and restaurants that reflect Lyon’s cultural heritage. Examples include Le Café Confluences, Alps-inspired gastronomic bar Alpage and Les Délices de Lyon.

Aéroports de Lyon has also put a strong focus on featuring “innovative and original” shops and services such as Fedon, Looping or Mademoiselle Vernis.

Fedon features a range of bags and accessories for travel and business, while Mademoiselle Vernis is an express nail salon offering treatments from 10 to 45 minutes.

Lagardère Travel Retail France has created the Looping concept especially for Lyon-Saint Exupéry. It features several children’s areas including toys and games, the aviation range, the entertainment corner, and the digital area with games and TV on a plasma screen.

Pop-up stores are an important part of the commercial mix, Aéroports de Lyon said, and three entertainment areas will also feature.

SSP will operate Burger King, Exki and Brioche Dorée F&B units.

The shops were selected following a survey of over 1,000 passengers which sought to determine travellers’ main wants and needs.

“Terminal 1 propels Lyon Airport into a new era, notably doing away with the architectural constraints of more ‘traditional’ terminals,” said Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport CEO Philippe Bernand. “The central space of the new Terminal 1, light and transparent, will give our passengers the possibility to discover and enjoy a vibrant space, filled with life and cultural exchange. A real travel experience.”
